Sanjeev’s first major breakthrough was as one of the core writer/performers of Goodness Gracious Me. He went on to create, write and host The BAFTA nominated “The Kumars at Number 42”, which enjoyed worldwide success, winning a BRITISH COMEDY AWARD, two international EMMY’s and a PEABODY award.

He has written and presented two documentary series, POSITION IMPOSSIBLE (Channel 4) and INDIA WITH SANJEEV BHASKAR (BBC) which also resulted in a Sunday Time bestseller of the same name.

More recently, he has appeared in Avatar’s hit series THE INDIAN DOCTOR (BBC) and UNFORGOTTEN (ITV)

On stage he has appeared in the West End in ART (Whitehall Theatre) and played King Arthur in Monty Python’s SPAMALOT (Palace Theatre). His film work includes NOTTING HILL (Roger Michell), SCOOP (Woody Allen) and The ZERO THEOREM (Terry Gilliam).

He also reached number one in the pop charts with SPIRIT IN THE SKY (Gareth Gates & The Kumars)

When Sanjeev is not writing, performing, directing or wrangling his children he has a profound love of movies and is a devoted Elvis fan.

He’s also Chancellor of Sussex University.

Sanjeev was awarded the OBE in 2005.
